Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Hukuya Sushi Bar Eastwood, an authentic dining experience nestled in the heart of Eastwood, located at 1/25 Railway Parade. This compact yet bustling sushi bar offers a menu that celebrates the freshness and artistry of Japanese cuisine, particularly renowned for its phenomenal sushi and sashimi selections.

As you step inside, you may initially notice the cozy atmosphere, which some diners describe as a bit crowded. However, the vibrant energy of Hukuya enhances the experience, making it perfect for a quick yet delectable meal. With each dish, you can expect generous portion sizes and that freshly prepared, high-quality essence that sushi enthusiasts crave.

One of the true highlights here is the sashimi—if you’re seeking thick, hearty slices that make you feel indulgent, look no further. Customers rave about the sashimi deluxe, which arrives with 36 substantial pieces, elevating the traditional dining experience. With options like tuna, salmon, and even octopus, each bite is a testament to the chef's commitment to quality. An important note from diners is that while the temperature of the sashimi could be better, the overall flavor and presentation remain exceptional.

In addition to the sashimi, diners are equally impressed with the main sushi offerings. The nigiri boasts a glorious ratio of fish to rice, critiqued positively by many. The delicate soft shell crab rolls are not overly large but still make for a satisfying experience. For those seeking something crispy, the vegetable tempura is light and crunchy, providing a delightful contrast to the more delicate flavors of sushi.

While the crowd favorites shine, it is worth noting that not every dish hits the mark. Some patrons mention that the udon is somewhat average and lacks a kick. Yet, even so, the overall experience at Hukuya is more than just a meal—it’s an experience filled with warmth, and the friendly service provided by the owners only enhances the visit.

As a hidden gem, Hukuya Sushi Bar Eastwood is certainly a spot to prioritize for anyone craving authentic sushi in the area. Just remember to pre-book your table, as the demand is high and the limited dining time of one hour adds to the urgency of savoring every moment and every bite of their delectable offerings. Enjoy the flavors of Japan right in Eastwood, where tradition meets quality and exceptional flavor awaits.

On the menu it says thin slices of sashimi… oh my, it was anything but thin — super generous! We ordered the sashimi deluxe, and it came with 36 thick, hearty slices. Each one felt indulgent. The regular sushi carried the same spirit — topped with equally thick cuts of sashimi, making every bite feel premium. The soft shell crab rolls weren’t gigantic, but still above average in size, satisfying without being overwhelming. Then came the vegetable tempura — and wow, another “big” surprise. Large, crispy pieces, light yet filling. The udon was well-balanced and comforting, while the chicken karaage, though not outstanding, was good — not dry and nicely seasoned. The only miss for me was the takoyaki — skippable compared to everything else. Do note: you need to pre-book, and dining time is strictly limited to one hour. All in all, a meal that delivered not just in taste but in portion size — generous all around. Definitely the kind of place that makes you feel like you got more than your money’s worth.

The sashimi here is high quality – it's really fresh and well-prepared. Highly recommend trying it. You'll find the seats are a bit crowded. It can feel a little tight, but it's totally okay because the food is just so nice. It's a great spot for a quick, delicious meal.

- Small, busy restaurant known for its sashimi and sushi. The best Japanese in Eastwood. - Fresh and thick cuts of sashimi. Loved that the nigiri had way more fish than rice. - Tempura was light and crisp and not greasy. - Only downside was that the sashimi wasn’t cold enough, and the tables felt a little sticky.

Authentic Sushi Hidden Gem in Eastwood - Hukuya Sushi Bar! I've been to Hukuya Sushi Bar three times now, and it consistently delivers! I have pretty high expectations for Japanese cuisine, and I was initially surprised to find that this fantastic spot is owned and managed by two Korean gentlemen. Let me tell you, they are doing a phenomenal job. The absolute best of the best here is their Sushi and Sashimi. I'd honestly say it's as authentic as what I've found dining in Japan. The quality and preparation are truly superb and are the soul of this small restaurant. If you're craving authentic sushi, you must visit this place. Now, for a few other items: their cold noodles are also a winner—tangy and delicious! My one suggestion would be to consider adding a quail egg to that dish, which would take it over the top. The Udon, however, was just average. The soup was a bit plain, the ingredient portion was quite small, and the overall dish was just okay. Despite the average Udon, the amazing sushi more than makes up for it. The two main gentlemen who run the place are incredibly friendly and approachable, and the waitresses are friendly too. Well done, guys! I hope you continue to thrive and maybe open an even bigger restaurant in the future. By the way, please book before you come, otherwise a min wait outside the restaurant for at least 20-30 mins, be it lunch or dinner.

Had lunch with a few friends here over the weekend. It’s a small hole in the wall sushi place but the food delivers. We ordered a mix of Shashimi, Sushi and some non seafood dish’s. All I can say is the food quality was 10/10 and serving size was also amazing value for money. The Sashimi was really fresh and expertly prepared. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Always been interested in this place. Hukuya has been around in Eastwood for quite a while. I took an opportunity to go and have a taste. The stand out thing here is that the platter is quite good value considering the thick cuts they give. The sashimi was so thick it was quite incredible. Like most places in Sydney it still hard to find an uni that's good.
